April is National Cancer Control Month

National Cancer Control Month

Although there are several other months during the year that are dedicated to the awareness of various types of cancer, National Cancer Control Month is a great time to look deeper into ways to prevent cancer and its treatment complications. The goal of National Cancer Control Month is for Americans to lead healthy and productive lives, whether or not they’ve been through cancer.

Why I Wear Medical ID Jewelry

Lauren's Hope Marcy Cuff

Since I work here at Lauren's Hope, it might seem pretty obvious as to why I'm such an advocate for Medical ID Jewelry, but the reality is, working here has only served to open my eyes as to why most Americans should wear one. Medical ID jewelry isn't just for those with certain medical conditions, drug or food allergies. Medical IDs are also a live-saving tool for caregivers too.

free stuff Friday
Scott Benner is a stay-at-home dad turned blogger whose adventures in parenting are both touchingly and humorously relatable to nearly all parents, regardless of their children's medical conditions. On Scott's blog, Arden's Day, he's celebrating six years of blogging this week, which is a great way to cap off a summer filled with rave reviews for his first book, Life Is Short, Laundry Is Eternal. For his blog-iversary, he's been posting quite a bit all week, and we are thrilled that he's finishing the celebrations off by giving away two signed copies of his book here on the Lauren's Hope blog! Both winners will also receive one of our fantastic interchangeable or adjustable paracord medical alert bracelets in his or her choice of colors or a Swiss Army Dog Tag medical alert necklace! Learn how to enter at the end of this post!
So, without further ado... welcome to FREE STUFF FRIDAY with Scott Benner, who recently tested the medical ID jewelry waters again for his daughter AND started wearing a caregiver ID himself!

EMTs Wear Medical Alert Jewelry, Too!

When we interview EMTs and other first responders for the Lauren’s Hope blog, it’s usually to get their front-lines perspective on what works best in an emergency when it comes to medical alert jewelry. For instance, a firefighter we interviewed explained that medical condition tattoos are generally quite ineffective because EMTs simply don’t look for them, they’re hard to see in some scenarios, and so many people have tattoos that a medical tattoo simply would not stand out. Others have explained that having your child wear an ICE (In Case of Emergency) ID is a great idea even for kids without medical concerns because kids don’t carry identification cards, and having that ICE information handy enables faster parent and caregiver notifications in an emergency.
